"We deal in lead, friend"

Steve McQueen's awesome, and pair him up with Yul Brynner and you've really got something special. The Magnificent Seven is one of my favorite movies. It's unassuming, fun, & an adaptation of an Akira Kurasawa masterpiece. How could that not be good? With a supporting cast of: Charles Bronson, Eli Wallach, James Coburn and the Man from U.N.C.L.E and fantastic one liners, this version might be more accessible, more aggreable to me more often. Don't get me wrong Seven Samurai is a masterwork from a master director. I'm just saying that watching Magnificent is like driving on cruse control and it's nice to get to do that with such a quality flick.

Good reading, um, elsewhere

Ok, so I'm kinda busy writing reviews and impressions for pAjAmO, so I really don't have a lot to say here right now. But Jane over at gamegirladvance wrote a really interesting piece about gender roles in games. Go check it out.

Meet B-ruce

John's finishing up the character designs for the strip and I must say that I love mine. Hopefully we'll have more to come in the following days.

Also I would just like to give you a breif run down of Tuesday, to be expanded upon at a later date.

Buffy was good but not great.

Smallville was going great but then had a horrible ending.

And I just sent off my application to be in the Final Fantasy XI public beta. Man, oh man I hope I get in. Unlike the application for the closed beta I filled out a couple months ago, they did not ask me if I spoke, wrote or understood the Japanese language in any way. So I think that's a good sign. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Ladies and Gentlemen I want to tell you about the fabulous, most groovy,... bellbottoms!

If you've seen this new Subaru ad with Lance Armstrong and wondered what the song in the background is, I'll tell you. The song is called "Bellbottoms" although the main part of the song sounds nothing like what you hear in this commercial, you should still check it out. It's on the album "Orange" by "The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion" I think this is one of the truly great rock albums of all time.

Reminders

Please make sure to check out Matt's new review @ pAjAmO. Seems to me he went a little overboard on the Vin Diesel bashing but hey, I didn't have to sit through the movie.

Also, Buffy returns from hiatus, only a few more episodes left, ever. Treasure them folks.

I think Greg Kasavin made an excellent point in his article. Most game makers aren't looking at the big picture and trying to develop a loyal fanbase of younger gamers. But on the flipside there's this: it's great that games are getting more mature and growing up with the generation that first started playing them. There's room enough in the market for both. And so long as the "PG" rated games are high quality we will still see younger gamers. Don't worry Greg so long as they're making games like "Zelda" "Mario" "Final Fantasy" "Suikoden" & "Shenmue" I think the future of the gaming industry has nothing to worry about.

Check out what I made, ain't it cool?

Now you can play "Grocery Store" like you've always wanted to.

Spike Spiegel: "I love a girl who can kick my ass"

Well, John and I just got out of the "Cowboy Bebop" movie and I was pleased. As I expected, it was very much like an extended episode of the Japanese animated (anime) series it is based on. It really had all of the elements that made "Bebop" such a great series, action, humor, bizarre Japanese stuff and hot chicks. All in all I have to say this is a must see for anyone who enjoyed the series, but I'm not sure if it will really do much for those less fortunate who don't know Spike, Jet, Faye & Ed. My only complaint is the music, while it was good; there was too much rockin' and not enough jazz. The show is called "Bebop" people, so give us at least one number that's jazzy. Also I was disappointed not to hear the theme song when they rolled the opening credits. Much like my other favorite anime series "Lain", "Bebop" had an awesome opening theme that no episode or cartoon of any kind with the "Cowboy Bebop" name should start without. Still I can't wait to own this on DVD & hope and pray that another "movie" is in the works.

R. Kelly is public enemy #1

Ok, so yeah I just grabbed a copy of the "Ignition" remix and it's probably one of the best songs I've heard in a damn long time, but that does not mean that he shouldn't be locked up this very minute for the safety of our society. He's a serial rapist. A straight up rapist. He picks up young young (freaky Japanese culture young) girls and he has their way with them. Now what he does doesn't have the same shock of evil as say a Roman Polanski, and most of the girls he's intercoursed and consequently pissed on (literally) are willing participants, but the bottom line is we as a civilized society have written laws that say that these girls are not of an age to make that decision. They are children, and as such they cannot BE willing participants in any such actions. The fact that there are multiple allegations of rape being brought against Kelly suggests that he cannot stop doing this; he is a SERIAL RAPIST. And the incredible danger here is that because the radio & television are continuing to play his songs they continue to portray him as a glamorous figure, which doesn't help us keep these young girls away from him. So I'm pointing the finger at all of you. The Media for continued airplay, the music consumer that went out and gave him money to fund his habit - instead of doing those commercials that totally exaggerate the link between terrorism and Marijuana they should air commercials that say if you buy an R. Kelly album you are directly contributing to the molestation and subsequent mental anguish of young girls like your little sisters - and the authorities for allowing such a man to run around free. If you want to buy R. Kelly albums then you should also go and mail your state representatives to lower the age of consent, that is unless you're a 13 year old girl, we all know that you want to get freaky with R. Kelly, but know that that's totally not the right thing for you to be doing and that we love you.

If I had my way R. Kelly and Roman Polanski would be in that super jail the government built to hold The Hulk and Robert Downey Jr. too, or the Old Dirty Bastard would be given one of Downey's countless second chances.
