This must be the greatest deal in all of Videogames

Too bad everyone already owns a copy of these two games. I shall be very interested in seeing the sales numbers for both the PS2 & Xbox bundles. I can’t believe that anyone who owns an Xbox doesn’t own a PS2 and these games so I’m assuming that these purchases will be made by folks who have worn out their old copies or who just really want to support Rockstar. I can’t really fault them for either. I do have an issue with the supposed customizable radio, but I’ll get into that more later.

A reminder

This is as much for my sake as yours, but just a reminder that South Park is all new tonight. The beginning of what I’m told is 8 new episodes. Also today’s Angel looks promising.

Hey Snake, do you think that love can blossom on a battlefield?

For some reason this story reminded me of Metal Gear Solid. Strange that.

Also this week’s cartoon at Homestar confirmed that there would be a new Halloween special next week, woohoo!

What's an Ikiru?

Ask me which Akira Kurosawa film is my favorite and I’ll give you a different answer each time. It depends on what kind of mood I’m in. The master made so many great films. The obvious favorites are, of course, “The Seven Samurai” and “Yojimbo” but often times I like to argue the merits of “Rashomon” “High and Low”. There’s also Kurosawa’s own favorite “Ran” which is far too deep for me to comprehend but I do respond to it on a basic level. Still out of all of these the film that I call my favorite more often than all these others is A.K.’s “Ikiru”. “Ikiru” evokes a powerful emotional response from me and always leaves its imprint on me, each time I watch it. Part of this might also be snobbery on my part as “Ikiru” is by far the least well known of Kurosawa’s great pictures. It’s not even on DVD at the moment. I asked the people over at the Criterion Collection why they had omitted this wonderful work and they assured me that “Ikiru” will be made available on DVD in 2004. Which is great news for both you and I.

*to learn more on Akira Kurosawa, consult your local library, or click on his name. It's a link to his IMDB page. There you can also read up on the other movie titles I've listed. The Ikiru link is to a wonderful essay written by Roger Ebert concerning the movie, naming it as one of his "100 great films".
