We Jumped on the Boat

It was we who jumped on the boat
a-looking for a fortune

And with our families left behind
our future became uncertain

Off to America we did go
and then off to the war

With our wives and mother struggling
we wondered more and more

Much later we returned home
not knowing what we'd find
if she be alive
and looking on those
who we had left behind

we found our wives
and brought them back
to begin a life a-new

We jumped off the boat
onto Angel Island
the goal within our view
