revisionist history
I recently found a cache of old writings while rummaging for something entirely different that turns out not to have existed. Like this poem for example, I’m afraid the best thing about it is the title, which I still find to be rather catchy. I made a couple of changes and now I present it to you.
Consuming the Last Rays of Sunlight before Entering the Darkness
And I stood there
On the corner of experimentation
On the last day that I could plead blissful
Ignorance
And I enjoyed a cigarette
Consuming the last rays of sunlight
Before entering the darkness
That those looming institutions of
Education created just for me
And I entered the building
Greeted by “It’s world AIDS day!”
Trivializing my turmoil
With quizzes and with games
That I no longer find amusing
And I devoured so much food
At lunch to constitute
A last meal
But it wouldn’t be
By no means
I will eat dinner tonight
Before going to the clinic tomorrow morning
