Checking in with the detective #1

Posted by b-ruce at 12:03 PM

I’m halfway done falling down these stairs when I realize I should be wearing my leather pants and Doc Martins for this kind of a gig. Pimps don’t usually take kindly to P.I.s to begin with, add in the fact that I’m snooping around for someone who may be his top earner, minors typically are, and, really, I should have seen this coming. A wiser man would have said that this whole situation was my fault. I’m not that wise. At this point I’m falling slowly enough to look up and flick off the man whom I have to thank for this ride on this bumpy paint chipped slide. Men as ugly as Gabriel Garcia should not have a woman’s name.

What, I've been busy

Posted by b-ruce at 11:53 AM

So I've just finished installing XNA. Which I'm happy to state it looks like I'll have the whole rest of the day to play with. But it seems this bit of time allocation doesn't sit well with Phoenix Wright .

Tenderizer-marinated Steak with mango salsa steak sauce.

Posted by b-ruce at 01:07 AM

This is a nice recipe for those of us who can’t afford the best, most tender steaks. Instead we can use the natural enzymes present in mango and pineapple to tenderize the meat.

Here comes XNA - Microsoft's game developing studio

Posted by b-ruce at 09:07 PM

Ok so I'm a couple weeks behind on this news on XNA but still it's worth commenting on. Microsoft is releasing a free game developing studio package for download starting this Wednesday. The software is reported to allow people the chance to develop their own games for Windows and Xbox 360. The catch is that in order to play and share the games on the Xbox 360 you have to pay a $99 subscription fee as do anyone whom you want to share the games with.

Still considering the Visual Studio package is somewhere around $300 a pop, this free software is a really cool idea. It's based on Visual C# so I wonder how user friendly it will be for those of us who aren't really even close to familiar with coding. Regardless it's piqued my interest. I'll let ya'll know on Wednesday how it is.

Computer shuts off on its own

Posted by b-ruce at 02:43 PM

I decided to post this to save you all some time and money if you ever are faced with the situation I was in last week.

If your computer is shutting itself off, rebooting on its own, or turning off unexpectedly after being on for only a couple hours or less you may have a dead or dying power supply.

My specifics:
After having the machine on for around 48hrs straight I powered it on last week Tuesday morning to get some work done. The machine rebooted itself after 2 hours of continuous use. I thought nothing of it and continued to work. 2 hours after the reboot the computer shut itself off. I left the machine alone for about 5 hours. That evening I turned it back on and got 90 minutes of use out of it before it turned off on its own. After that I'd be lucky to get 30 minutes of work. There was no pattern to what the machine was doing when these shut down episodes would occur. The machine could be working a bit, a lot or idle, clue #1

Yup, you guessed it: I done finished another book. Another Haruki Murakami book, titled Kafka on the Shore.

I heartily endorse this book to any an all hipsters out there, unforgettable characters and narrative.

1 more month

Posted by b-ruce at 12:26 PM

This gaming drought offically ends September 5th, when Yakuza, aka Ryu Ga Gotoku arrives on store shelves everywhere.

Since the last cut-scene I watched last week I've become very excited at the prospect of playing this game and having an experience similar to the vaunted Shenmue. Only time will tell.
