Enjoy it, it could be our last

Posted by at 12:30 PM

Reminder: Arrested Development is airing tonight at 8:30 central. This is the season finale, but it could be the series finale. So please don't miss what could be your last chance to see one of the funniest sitcoms in this post-Seinfeld era. Watch it, talk about it and write about it, please. Hopefully with our support Fox will renew the series.

I came home on Wednesday to find my beloved computer had crashed. I had left it on to allow folks to download Jumpsuit Robbie tracks, now it was off. I hit the “power” button, no response. I turned off the main power switch and then back on, then “power”, no response. At that point I had to throw in the towel, I had a speech to prepare for and the use of other computers on the premises. Now 3 days have passed and I have still yet to take screwdriver to case, I’ve been hella busy. I also think that I perhaps am dreading the very real possibility that I will have to invest on some replacement parts. Not that I’m without funds, it’s just something I’d rather not spend on at the moment. Thankfully, this new moveable type setup allows me to post from anywhere.

Boy, 2 in less than 12 months, I'm like some sort of reading machine!

Posted by at 10:04 AM

I have just finished readed Hesse's "Siddhartha" and much to the joy of the friends of the Glenview library ("friends of the library, Marge?") I will be finally returning it sometime this weekend.

I just thought I'd share this with you as my reading a whole entire book is a rare occurance. And also I must recommend the book to you. The prose is wonderfully hipnotic and I couldn't help but be moved by Sidd's quest for enlightenment/inner peace as I'm sure you'll agree, that is something that most of us strive for, at least in some small degree, every day.

I also went out for my first motorcycle ride of the year yesterday. The weather was so nice out here in the Chi that I almost had to. I have an 8 year old picture of the bike here. The bike still looks the exactly the same, unfortunately the same cannot be said of me. The first ride of the year is always one of the best. The winter months spent traversing the roads in cars can make you forget of the wonderful sensation that riding a steel horse among a maze of metal rhinoceroses provides. It's a great way to enjoy a warm day.

Everybody's working for the weekend

Firstly I should state that I was very happy that Kathy got the axe on Survivor as she had the power to save Hatch and Ethan (probably my two favorites of the whole cast), but didn't. Reap what you sow, baby.

The venerable Tycho, over at Penny Arcade has once again provided a description of an element in the gaming world - this time of those most devoted MMORPG players - so acurate, it should be placed in some sort of dictionary.

I myself am giddy in anticipation of a Saturday filled with doins. Kill Bill 2, the new Chris Rock HBO special and a meal at Sweet Tomatos, can't get much better than that.

New Suikoden 4 info!

Posted by at 3:03 PM

It's no secret; I'm a Suikoden fanboy. So you could see why even the smallest bit of information regarding the upcoming forth game would be like kisses from the sweet lady Leknaat herself.

Also IGN has a teaser up for Tales of Symphonia that doesn't seem to reveal much except that there will be anime video scenes that look pretty sweet.

Lastly I'd like to go on record and predict the winners of tonight's fights on HBO. I'm going with the speed and power of Zab Judah over the defensiveness and family lineage of Cory Spinks. And in my upset special of the night, I'm going with the guys over at Maxboxing.com and picking Lamon Brewster to win by upset knockout of Wladimir Klitschko.

A nice way to wait out a Sunday afternoon.

Posted by at 3:07 PM

I scored just a few questions shy of the top mark in EW’s pop culture quiz, 84. It was quite challenging but also the trip down memory lane to the not so distant 90’s was quite amusing. While I am quite proud of knowing much of the trivia quizzed, I will admit that it took me a while to remember the name of the third Fugee.

Question most ashamed of missing: Complete this analogy. Ghost is to “Unchaned Melody” as Wayne’s World is to __________.

Question most proud of getting correct: Which Teletubby did Jerry Falwell accuse of “modeling the gay lifestyle”?

Best movie reference in the quiz: “What did David Paymer give you the answers?”

My weekend with your kids

Posted by at 1:04 PM

So I saw Hellboy yesterday afternoon, with what I assume was the majority of kids aged 10-15 in Skokie. The movie itself was fine, Ron Perlman does an applaudable job of keeping Hellboy from being the clichéd stoic comic book hero, and you know, anytime Nazis are the bad guys always makes for a good time. What I found strange was my reaction to being surrounded by such young people. In my normal movie-going experience I am either in an empty (or damn near close to it) theater or joined by other members of my demographic. I almost felt like whispering in my conversations with my friends so as not to offend virgin ears. Then one of the youths' cell phones rang during the second half of the movie and he proceeded to try and have a conversation for a minute before hanging up, obviously these children were not so innocent as to not annoy me. Reminding me, once again, why I don't like being in a theater full of children.
